Elias Tona's masterclass with guest artists Mauricio Rodriguez and Miguel Hernandez

Our Master Legend for December 11th at 7 pm is Elias Tona. The intent of his masterclass: to introduce his album “Profile”. Elias will play musical examples and then he will take us inside of the process of making music suitable for a 6 string Electric Bass Solo Album: NO overdubs and in ONE take. Sounds impossible? Well, come and see for yourself!! You will be delighted to listen to his unique style of playing. Free admission!!
Elias loves to work with different styles of music; jazz, classical, gospel, Venezuelan folklore and other influences which add to his captivating and artistic personality.
His eclectic style has taken him many places during his professional career as a performer, composer, arranger and producer. His experience with different genres of music makes Elias a great choice to open our Electric Bass Master Legends series. Currently Mr. Tona is a faculty member at The Players School of Music in Clearwater. Florida, founded by legendary bassist Jeff Berlin. Elias is also a gifted bassist. At the present time, he tours with Al di Meola and has shared the stage with many other world-known artists: among those guitar virtuoso Steve Vai.
In spite of his very busy concert schedule, Elias has graciously agreed to present a masterclass for the Miami International Academy of Double Bass' participants in collaboration with Florida International University. Mr. Elias Tona performs on a 6-string bass and his new CD Elias Tona's Profile will be available during the masterclass and later could be purchased through Elias Tona's website
Elias Tona's guest artist is our own Mauricio Rodriguez. Mauricio is the composer-in-residence for the Miami International Academy of Double Bass. He has a long career as a composer, performer and arranger. As a double bassist, Mr. Rodriguez has achieved many great moments and is quite busy recording and performing his double bass and his electric bass all over the United States and internationally. Mauricio Rodriguez is also responsible for the upcoming launch of original music for double bass, specially written for the concert double bass artist and chamber musician. We are planning the grand opening of our sheet music section for Spring 2018. I am sure that Mauricio will marvel us with his many great arrangements specially made for our great bass audience.
We are also planning to publish Mauricio's double Double bass concerto Love and Betrayal in Spring 2019. This double concerto for two solo basses based on themes from the Opera Carmen by Bizet was premiered in March 2017 at the Arsht Center in Miami Florida with the Miami Symphony orchestra and featured Chi-Chi Nwanoku and Luis Gomez-Imbert as the solo double bassists.
