Barbara Mosquera was born in La Victoria Venezuela, and immigrated to Miami, Florida. After auditioning for a music program, she began playing the Double Bass at the age of 8. She continued her primary string education in the magnet programs at South Miami Elementary, South Miami Middle, and Coral Reef Senior High. During this time, she participated in annual festivals including the Honors Festival, and played in several community orchestras including the Greater Miami Youth Symphony and The Miami String Project.
She began her collegiate education at Florida International University as a music major under the instruction of Luis Gomez-Imbert. While in college, she became the president of the Asian Student Union and a Captain for the organization’s Relay for Life team. She went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts for Arts Administration. She interned at a non-profit youth orchestra called Musicall, where she worked as an assistant music teacher, and event coordinator.
Currently, she works with students as an office assistant at the FIU Disability Resource Center and the Social Media Director for Miami International Academy of Double Bass (miabass.org).
